21 Months

Don't let the title of this post fool you.  This child is a two year old.

Not that there's anything terrible about two.  I generally think two year olds (at least two-year-old Reitzlings) are the most adorable, amusing, and delicious little critters.  Other than the occasional pouty lip, object tossed down in frustration, or running in place, Ingrid continues to be delightful.

She's increasingly conversational and is able to string together long sentences.  She's also asking more questions, with lots of "where's this" and "what's that?"  Some favorites from the last few days:

"More colors!  More colors, Mommy!  I want yellow.  Take cap off please."
"That's my balloon, don't push it!"
"No thank you.  I want saurkraut."
"Here ya go, mommy, stickers.  Is a dump truck."
"Wanna go to music class, mommy.  I can't see it."
"I want tacos and chockit milk."
"I want paper, mommy.  Where's my paper?"
"Nose runny, need a tissue!"

Funniest of all, she has started ratting on Henry.  The other day, Henry knocked her down and she screamed with righteous fury, "Henry did dat!  HENRY DID DAT!"

Best of all, when I put her in bed, she says, "I wuv you."

She likes to run and climb, but is mainly going through a fine-motor phase.  She loves to click and unclick the buckles on the stroller and booster seat over and over again.  Loves peeling endless sheets of stickers (she always very courteously offers them to me).   Loves coloring and fills page after page with very carefully-executed scrawls.  Markers are her preferred medium.

She wants to do everything herself.  We hear lots of "I do.  IdoIdoIdoIDO!"  She especially likes to try and put on her own pants and screw on the sippy cup lids.

Favorite color is purple.  Favorite shoes are silver.  Favorite books are Olivia, Caps for Sale, How to Babysit a Grandpa, A Ball For Daisy, Harold and the Purple Crayon, and I Am A Bunny.

She is starting to be aware of letters and numbers.  When she sees any text, she'll point to it and say, "ABCDEFG."  She correctly identifies W, X, and O, which she calls "oval."  And she likes to count the sliding rings at the park, pushing them back and forth and rambling "one two thee fo five six seben eight nine ten," though I don't think she has any meaningful numbers beyond one.

We haven't measured her lately, but she is plainly having a major growth spurt, despite the fact that she is basically subsisting on milk and beans.  When I pulled out her 3T summer clothes a couple of months ago, they looked huge on her.  Now they're already looking more fitted, with just enough room to grow for the summer.  Her legs are stretching out to match her torso and she's really slimming down.  I'm glad summer and short clothes came in time to see her deliciously soft arms and legs for another season before she turns into a skinny preschooler.

Speaking of summer clothes, she really fought the seasonal wardrobe change.  She picks out her own clothes and repeatedly demanded the few remaining garments from her winter collection.  She's finally coming to accept her summer clothes (which are adorable) and picks out some very amusing outfits for herself.  And we can't leave the house without sunglasses, a pink umbrella, a purse, backpack, and/or beads.

Though she was unsure about her new clothes, the child was made for summer.  It's all water play and ice cream for this girl.  We went to the pool for the first time last week and she wept huge tears when it was time to go.  I think the next few months with her are going to be fantastic!

  1. She is at least six months older than Mark and Lydia. It's ridiculous.
