Three Months

Look at this squishy not-a-newborn!

Happiness is a three month old.  I love this age when they're a little sturdier than a newborn but still sleepy and cuddly and easily portable.  She's developing a very satisfactory second thigh wrinkle but still manages to have skinny-looking arms and legs.

She gives us big open-mouth smiles and flaps her limbs when I come into view.  She also just started chuckling, usually if one of us laughs or if we do silly things with her feet.

She has rolled from her back to front a couple of times but can't do it all the time yet.  She tries really hard but gets frustrated and squawks like a bird.  She likes the playmat for short periods, the crinkly turtle book, and jingly triangle.

I've been trying to transition her from the swing to the crib.  She will usually take one decent nap during the day in the crib.  If she's in the swing, she'll sleep from 8pm to 8am.  She goes to bed easily in the crib but wakes up once in the night and doesn't want to go back into the crib.  So we've had several nights of starting in the crib, waking to eat around 3:00, then finishing the night in the swing.  I don't like getting her back in the habit of eating in the middle of the night since we'd already passed that hurdle, but it's nice to get her used to the crib while she's still young and impressionable.

Oh my goodness, the big kids love this baby.  I can't put her down without one or both of the kids accosting her with affection.

The only downside is that it has changed the Henry-Ingrid dynamic a little.  They fight for her attention (such as it is) and involve her in their disputes.  Yesterday the neighbor was cooing over Heidi and said she wanted to keep the baby.  Henry told her she couldn't keep Heidi but she could have Ingrid.

Guys, leave me out of it!

She is the sweetest, most easy-going baby.  The poor child never gets to finish a nap or playtime without being picked up and moved somewhere, but she never seems to mind.  Today she spent all day at Henry's school with me.  She napped in the Ergo and gurgled at the teachers and only fussed for 30 seconds before falling asleep.  She's delightful.
