First Day(s) of School

Summer is over and we're back into the swing of school.  We definitely did not get the 104 days Phineas and Ferb promised us.

The big kids did great on their first day back.  Everyone was dressed and ready.  We got there early to be part of the PTA welcome delegation.  Heidi thought back-to-school day was the super funnest thing ever -- everyone is running around! we can shout "HI!" to lots of people! they're giving out apples! we're taking pictures by the flagpole!  And then we took Henry and Ingrid in the building and left them behind.  It was terrible.  Poor thing cried all day.

Phineas outfit for the first day!

No one may take a photo without Heidi.

Ingrid is starting her second year in Ms. Sherri's class and greeted her with big hugs.  She tells us nothing about her day, but Ms. Sherri reports she has had a few lessons and is doing at least a little work other than art.

Henry is starting his third year in the same classroom, but his super-awesome teacher retired and he has a new teacher.  She seems pretty good so far, but perhaps not quite so perfect a match for Henry.  Ms. Bennett was very warm and loved boy-energy.  Miss Karen is more reserved and apparently strives for a quiet, zen atmosphere.  Both are familiar models in the Montessori universe but "zen" is not exactly Henry's style.  On top of that, all of his buddies moved up to the next classroom without him.  He had a wonderful group of friends and I think he's a little lost without them.  He's complaining about school a lot more.  We aren't quite at October 2014 levels, but he definitely isn't enthusiastic about school like he was last year.

Heidi also started school!  Our beloved Miss Jackie started a new program and Heidi is going two mornings a week.  She just started on Tuesday and loves it.  We got out the traditional elephant backpack on Tuesday morning and she put it on and positively strutted to the car.  She did fine at drop-off and Jackie reported very few tears during the day.  She did burst out in tears when she saw me at pick-up.  But she went right in again on Thursday even though she knew I'd be leaving her.  When she had to stay home with me on Wednesday and Friday, she kept asking, "Khaki?  Porter?  Weeeeeeves?"  (Porter and Reeves are the two kids in her class she already knew).

Pause here and brace yourself for cuteness.
