Baby's First Formal
I just realized that I never posted pictures from Seth & Alyssa's wedding four weeks ago. Apparently the last month escaped without my noticing. April can be wily like that.
The wedding was Henry's first big dress-up event, and my friend Libby found this awesome seersucker vest-and-pants number for him to wear. It was so adorable that I was willing to commit the sartorial misdemeanor of dressing him in seersucker the day before Easter. Good thing the wedding was in Maryland and not in Virginia; people in the South might have raised an eyebrow, but the Yankees were oblivious.
The outfit came with a cute peach-colored Oxford shirt and navy striped clip-on tie, but we neglected to do a full-dress rehearsal and realized only at the last minute that the peach shirt didn't really fit our giant baby. We narrowly averted a wardrobe malfunction by swapping out for a navy blue polo.
Now, some mothers might have carefully planned their outfits so that their coral-and-peach wraps and brown dresses coordinated perfectly with the baby's orange shirt and tan seersucker, not that I know anyone lame enough to do that, but luckily the shirt swap meant that Henry was adorably coordinated with Dad instead.
We had a really nice time at the wedding, which was a Jewish-Buddhist event (Henry already attended a Jewish-Hindu wedding in utero. He's very cultured.). Henry charmed everyone before the ceremony and showed off for the photographer by gnawing/drooling through at least four wedding programs. He took a bottle through most of the ceremony, then he and I walked around the gardens and sampled the various plant leaves for the rest of the service. He was a good sport through the cocktail hour, meeting and smiling at some WashU folks we hadn't seen in awhile. The reception started precisely at the time when the baby starts to melt, so I put him in the car and headed home, leaving Karl to keep the party going. Great wedding, fantastic setting, super cute baby. An event to remember.

A rare family photo. |
It's hard to be the parent of such a well-dressed child. Someone's gotta do it and it might as well be you. I firmly believe that it's always a good time to wear seersucker. It doesn't follow the same rules as "wearing white" does. Darling photo.
