Four Months

Ingrid is four months old today and just the lovey-est little love love.

She wants to be played with and talked to all the time.  She would be happy as a clam if I would carry her around 24 hours a day.  She giggles the most charming giggles when we make silly faces and noises at her.  Now that she is going to sleep reliably at night, she is all sweetness and smiles.  The other night I laid her down in bed with us after feeding her at 4:00 because we were both in the mood to cuddle, and before falling asleep she looked back and forth from me to Karl, smiling great smiles like, "Gosh, I'm so glad you're both here!"

We are starting to see obvious recognition of certain objects and people.  Her favorite things are her Sophie teether,  her jingly knit doll, the jingly ball from Henry's bowling set, and the crunchy paper.  She will smile at practically anyone -- which makes everyone super nice to us when I carry her around in the Bjorn at the store or in the airport -- but seems to express special delight for me, Henry, and Karl.  She especially loves to gaze at Karl, and is willing to tolerate all kinds of thumps and bumps from her rowdy older brother.

She is finally starting to fall into a daily routine now that we've been home and fairly low-key for a couple of weeks.  She sleeps from roughly 7:30 to 7:30, then during the day, is awake for two hours before napping for 45 minutes or an hour.  So she naps around 9:30, 12:30, and 3:30.  This makes it tough to go anywhere or accomplish anything on the days that I have both kids, but it also means that I can get some one-on-one time with Henry several times a day.  It will be nice when she consolidates her sleep a little more and switches to two predictable naps a day.

We had her checkup at the doctor today.  Nurse Sue carried Ingrid around the office so all the other nurses could exclaim over the baby's incredible cheeks (all four of them).  The official stats:
  • Weight: 18 lbs 7oz (off the charts)
  • Length: 26.75 inches (off the charts)
  • Head Circumference: 41.5 cm (75th percentile)
