Eight Months

Eight months old and such a big girl!  Ingrid is scooting around and getting into everything, laughing hysterically at her crazy brother, and generally being a lovey ball of cuddles.

Ingrid fell into a very nice nap routine this month.  She's up around 7:00, naps around 10:00 for an hour or so, is awake again until about 2:30, and usually stays down for an hour and a half (sometimes more).  I'm trying to get her used to sleeping in the stroller so that I can still get Henry outside in the mornings.  She used to snooze in the Ergo all the time, but it's really only conducive to cat-napping and it means I can't play with Henry.

Night time is another story. She hasn't slept through the night since we went to St. Louis.  At this point it's our fault, because we could have just let her cry it out for a few nights and gotten her back on track.  But with two more trips coming up it feels like three or four nights of pissed-off baby is just a waste of sleep.  She usually only wakes up once, which I realize isn't that bad compared to what some parents put up with, but it seems ridiculous to be waking up for an eight-month-old, 20-something-pound baby who has previously slept through the night for weeks on end.

She's been much better about being put down and left on her own for a few minutes, and as long as she's fed, will happily hang out with Karl for hours.  This month marked the first time that Karl had both kids awake for any significant period of time and everyone had a fine time.  He even put Ingrid down for a nap while I was gone and she went down without any problems.  Yahtzee!  Mama's going out more often.  On the other hand, Elaine tried to hold her and give her some mush when she came over to babysit, and it resulted in core meltdown.

Ingrid loves to eat but is really only interested in mush.  By this age, Henry was very gung-ho to feed himself, and I was more than happy to give up smushing and pureeing everything.  Ingrid has totally mastered the pincer grip and gumming bits of food but usually refuses to apply those skills to anything except baby puffs.  But as long as it's mashed up, she'll eat practically anything I feed her.  Banana is the only food rejected in any shape and form.

Other than being a little groggy in the morning, we had a delightful month with the little lady.  I'm looking forward to showing her off to lots of friends and family in Seattle and Virginia this month.
