Henry had his first little school concert before Christmas break.  It was chaotic and adorable.  He was absolutely convinced that he and one other girl would be singing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.  The whole class got up and sang two songs all together.  Henry was front and center and totally into it.  No idea where he got the idea that he and Maggie had a solo, but we were really proud of him anyway.

Ingrid suddenly got an imagination last week.  She doesn't just want to put on the Cinderella dress -- now she wants to act out going to the ball.  Henry is expected to play the role of the Prince.  And when she plays with dolls or any sort of little figures, she makes up things for them to do and talks to them.  I want to eat her up.

I made brisket on Christmas (My Jewish grandma's recipe.  At least we didn't order Chinese food.)  For the four hours it was cooking, Henry mentally psyched himself up for biscuits.  Cue major crisis when oven produced tender meats and not flaky circular bread.  We had to discuss the difference between "brisket" and "biscuit" a thousand times over the next week.  If you ever have a similarly urgent need for biscuits (NOT brisket), I highly recommend this recipe.

Ingrid also started "reading" stories to us.  She had never chimed in with the reading before, but apparently she had been storing away all the words of every book in the house and can recite them all.  We got some new books from the library last weekend and she has already memorized most of them.

Henry is still on a mission to be Just Like Daddy, so we buzzed his hair.  I was really sad to lose his floppy locks but he does look awfully cute with his mini-Karl self.

That one day I almost gave the kids up for adoption -- it kicked off when Henry dumped an entire can of Benjamin Moore's finest on the carpet.  Yeah, I don't know.  Amazingly, we managed to get it all out.  I'm never going to another baby shower with a fuzzy blanket or Sophie le Giraffe.  From now on, every new parent gets a Bissell Little Green Machine.

The kids have been really sweet together.  Ingrid is really sad when Henry is not home when she gets back from school.  Today, Henry's school had a weather delay so we dropped Ingrid off first.  Henry said, "I'm going to miss Ingrid.  She looked really cute in her Olivia dress today."  It's tough to get back to the grind after vacation.
