Five Months

I think Heidi is the sweetest baby ever.  She disagrees.  She thinks she is about two years old.  All of a sudden she wants to do all the things the big kids are doing at eat all the things the big kids are eating.  I can never put her down, but it's not because she wants to cuddle all the time (ahem, cough, baby Ingrid).  She just wants a ride.  Hey, Mom, whatcha doin?  Whatcha eating?  Can I gnaw on it? What's Henry doing over there?  Can I see?  She's constantly lunging at our food, the floor, and her toys.  She would try to crawl if she had any upper-body strength.

Nonetheless, I'm making her stay a baby forever, because she's the best baby ever.  Except in the car.  I need to write a whole post devoted to the demon that possesses this baby in the car.  But otherwise she's the most delightful little human.

We had a jag of waking up at 5:45 for a couple of weeks and we had no idea what to do with her.  We'd never had to deal with a Heidi sleep issue before.  So we did nothing (except some early-morning yoga) and now she's back to waking up at 7:00.  When she starts getting tired she rubs her face on my shoulder, pops her thumb in her mouth, and waits to be nursed or rocked.  And then I put her in the bed and she goes to sleep/stays asleep no matter how abruptly I plunked her down.

She sleeps with her thumb in her mouth and the other hand covering her face.  It's adorable.

She is a bit of a thrill seeker.  She likes to be flown around and tossed in the air (gently) and tickled.  All produce big open-mouthed grins and giggles.  More adorable.

She's very vocal.  So many screams, squawks, gurgles, and yowls.

She got really interested in our food, so we started trying purees.  She's the third kid and we didn't get around to buying rice cereal or retrieving the Bumbo from our friends' house, so she's eating whatever we have on hand while sitting in someone's lap.  So-so on bananas, likes nectarines, big fan of avocados.  Also a big fan of the ice cream I let her try at our farm field trip today.  The things you do with the third kid.
