Two Weeks

Our snuggly little one is two weeks old today.  I took her for her checkup at the pediatrician -- in good newborn fashion, she threw up copious amounts of semi-curdled milk all over both of us fifteen minutes before we were supposed to leave -- and the doctor declared her perfect.  They want the baby to have regained her birth weight by the two week mark.  Ingrid was 9 lbs even at birth, and 10lb 9oz today.  Mama don't make no skim milk.

So far Ingrid is a pretty mellow baby.  She is just starting to wake up from her post-birth sleepy period and is alert for a few hours over the course of the day.  The only time she really cries is when she wants to be fed.  For the most part she has been sleeping really well.  We only had a couple of nights when we were up every two hours, and then last night she slept from 10:30 to 5:00, when I woke her up because I needed to feed her.  Most nights I feed her when we go to bed at 10:00ish, then she wakes up around 2:00 to eat, and sometimes again around 6:00.

She is also an extremely noisy baby.   Though she hardly ever cries, she sometimes keeps us awake at night with grunts and snarfs and snores and hiccups and wheezes and gurgles and creaky-door noises.  You wouldn't expect such a delicate little lady to have such an impressive range of indelicate sounds.  The pediatrician wants us to keep the baby in our bedroom until she's four months old, but she might get evicted for noise violations long before then.

Karl went back to work today and Henry is getting back into a routine with Elaine and Ravi, so Ingrid and I are officially settling into maternity leave.  On the docket: heavy Kindle usage, re-watching the first season of Downton Abbey, long walks, baking things, doing laundry.  I'm looking forward to spending the next several weeks nesting with the little lady.

  1. Glad to hear things are going so well! You are lucky to have mellow, sleepy babies - probably drunk on your filling milk :) E only made it 2 weeks in our bedroom before being booted to the nursery - I'm sure Ingrid would be safe and content making noises in her own room if it helps you and Karl get some sleep!
