Conversations with Henry III
Henry was hopping around in the manner that can only mean one thing.
Me: Henry, do you need to potty?
Henry: No, I was just dancin' really good without peeing.
We were getting in the super-hot car on a super-hot day.
Henry: Ew, Mama, I yawned and the hot got in my mouth.
Waiting in the airport for our return flight home from Minnesota.
Henry: [Audible sigh] I wish we were at home watching golf.
Karl got a new watchband.
Henry: What's that, Daddy?
Karl: I got a new band for my watch.
Henry: I like that one. It looks good.
Karl: Thanks, buddy.
Henry: That [old] brown one . . . that wasn't my favorite.
Some friends were at our house. Henry refused to play nicely with their son, M, so Grandma Carol took Henry inside to play.
Grandma Carol: Henry, don't you want to go out and play with M?
Henry: NOT. EVER. AGAIN!!!
[Three weeks later, following a party at M's house]
Grandma Carol: Henry, who is your best friend?
Henry: M.
Carol brought some of Grandpa Gene's old belt buckles for Karl and Eric. Karl got one with a very large horseshoe, some sparkly bits, and a silver dollar in the middle. He put it on and joked about how he was going to wear it to work.
Later that night, Karl puts Henry to bed. As he's walking out the door:
Henry: Daddy....
Karl: Yeah, buddy?
Henry: You're never going to wear that belt to work.
Another night, Karl putting Henry to bed. As he's walking out the door:
Henry: Good night, Daddy.
Karl: Good night, buddy.
Henry: Leave the iPad.
Our friend Jamie came to visit. Henry was so super psyched to play with him, I knew there was no way he was going to nap.
Henry: Is it nap time?
Me: You don't have to nap today since Jamie is here.
Henry: It's okay, we can just have happy hour!
Jamie: [WTF???]
At dinner with the Bradens at the cabin.
David Braden: Henry, what's your favorite book?
Henry: Pooh.
David: What does Pooh like to eat?
Henry: He's a carnivore.
David: [WTF???]
