The Callum

We spent last week at the cabin, a.k.a. the callum.  Once again, Henry was just as cool and happy as could be as soon as we got there.  He was up all night squawking and complaining the first night we spent at Carol and Dave's apartment, then slept like a rock every night at the cabin.  The magic of sun and water and woods.

The weather was unexpectedly warm for May in Wisconsin and it was nice enough to be out on the water most days.  It was too cold for Henry to join the polar bear plunge, but he was man enough to wear a rainbow pink life vest on the tube.

When we visited last year we didn't take the boat out, so this was Henry's first chance to get out on the water.  I was expecting Henry to love the boat, but I thought that he would be so amped up that we would have to physically restrain him from running around and leaping into the water.  Turns out he couldn't have been more chill if I'd put a straw hat over his face and handed him a Corona.  He just sat on my lap and told Eric "more faster" if he was driving too slow.  Eric was the only one brave enough to water ski in 68 degree weather, and apparently Henry was really impressed, because he still says "kee! water!" every time we see a picture of Eric.

The menfolk also took a couple tours of the lake on the canoe.  You can't go up near Canada and not get in a canoe.

Looks like a boatload of fun.

That's better.

Henry helped Dave collect sticks for the fire every day.  They also set up the tent, which didn't serve much purpose but entertained the boys for a solid hour.

Apparently the appropriate adult:toddler ratio is 6:1 -- Henry seemed to appreciate that we finally amassed an adequate number of adoring adults for him to boss around.  He got Julia to play Boo with him for 45 minutes at a time.  He ordered Dave and Carol to take him outside within five minutes of waking up.  He cuddled Karl in the hammock for three minutes as a ruse to get him to give up his spot.  He even convinced Karl and Eric to carry him around in the toy bucket like a (naked) sultan in a palanquin.

It was a great week with lots of family fun time for Henry and rest for me and Karl.   Thanks to the Bradens for letting us visit again!
