Nineteen Months
Karl looked at me about mid-month and said, "I'm afraid Henry is peaking as a human being." Though there are obviously some aspects of Henry's future self that will be delightful, it's hard to believe that any age can beat the exquisite cocktail of chubby cuteness, toddler wiggliness, little-kid silliness that was Henry at 18 months old. He's big enough to do things with us but still small and cuddly. He talks enough to be understood but in a way that's still primitive and adorable. He's rough and tumble but sweet and affectionate. He's sunny and agreeable but spirited and determined.
And he dances...boy, does he dance. Sometimes other parents in the neighborhood greet us in the park with, "Oh, that's Henry! Everybody knows Henry from Boogie Babies." [Warning: naked baby video. Don't report me.]

Some of Henry's current favorite things:
- Lovies -- Blankie and Pup, plus sometimes Bear and/or Baby
- Books -- A Sick Day for Amos McGee; Where the Wild Things Are; Doctor, Doctor; Green Eggs and Ham; The Daddy Book and The Mommy Book; The Very Hungry Caterpillar
- Fun and Games -- get you (we chase him); boo (scare him repeatedly by jumping from behind walls or furniture); flipping upside down; running (seems like it's always in the direction of moving vehicles)
- The way he says "octopus." It sounds like "ah-poo-coos." I hope he never learns to say it correctly.
- The look of sheer glee on his face every time one of us jumps from behind a wall and says "Boo!" It's the funniest thing that ever happened, every single time.
- He's picking up on the emotions of other people and likes to talk about whether people are happy or sad. When he talks about happy, he makes a so happy face, and when he talks about sad, he makes a so sad face.
- The look of his perfect little chubby face when he's cuddled up with me before bedtime. The late evening twilight is just right, and he looks so sweet and soft.
18 months is a super fun age! I remember Abby couldn't say 'cupcake', she called it 'pupcake' and I wanted her to say it like that forever. It's really a bummer that they have to grow up. Enjoy this time!
